PLATO EBR E-Tourism Cluster
Our strong digital and tourism background and expertise has led us to working with PLATO EBR to develop and deliver an e-tourism cluster across the East Border Region of Ireland.
PLATO EBR is a business development programme focusing on mentoring, skills development and improvement for SMEs, with over 200 participant companies to date. The aim of the E-tourism cluster is to enhance competiveness for the region whilst supporting businesses to develop their e-marketing activity and to develop e-commerce strategies, so we are working closely with a group of almost 30 tourism businesses to help them to maximise on digital opportunities.
The project is multi-stranded. We developed a strong collaborative network of rejuvenated businesses, keen to participate in a series of workshops focusing on social and digital media across six months that will help them to become more digitized.
Participating companies in the cluster include a range of accommodation, adventure, activity and attraction types businesses from both sides of the border, representing the caliber of the tourism offering in the region. The companies are keen to think local and sell global so have a keen appetite to share knowledge and develop their skills by energetically engaging with us and the network at the workshops, resulting in a clear improvement in strategic inter-regional networking opportunities.
The programme of activity will then result in the tourism SMEs feeding into the development of a cluster action plan for the long-term benefit of tourism businesses within the region. Our robust experience in developing tourism and digital strategies perfectly supports this strategic development, with our practical knowledge of the opportunities around clustering and experiential tourism a clear benefit to the Cluster.
Dr Cecilia Hegarty, Director of PLATO EBR said “PLATO EBR is delighted to work on this exciting project with Oli who will expertly lead the workshop activity over the coming months, collaborating with the participating businesses to produce real-time results”.
